How much do TikTok LIVE hosts earn in the UK?

Short answer: most UK listings for TikTok LIVE hosts pay somewhere between £12 and £30 an hour, and the better deals add commission on sales on top. A host doing three evenings a week on decent stock can clear a few hundred pounds a week part-time. The spread is wide because "live host" covers everything from reading comments for a phone-case brand to running a £5,000-an-hour lash stream.

The three ways hosts get paid

Hourly only. The most common on job boards. Employed or freelance, £12 to £30 an hour depending on the brand and your experience. Predictable, but your income has nothing to do with how well you sell.

Commission only. A percentage of GMV (gross merchandise value, meaning total sales during your stream), typically somewhere between 3 and 10 percent. Unlimited upside, but a slow Tuesday afternoon on tired stock pays nothing. Only sensible on a brand you already know converts.

Hourly plus commission. A guaranteed hourly rate for turning up and streaming, plus a percentage of what sells. This is what we use at Hosts for Hire: the National Living Wage rate, £12.71 an hour, on every stream, and 3 percent of sales once you've done three lives for the same seller. The hourly rate means you're never working for free; the commission means a great night with a regular seller is a great night for you too.

A worked example

Say you take three streams a week, three hours each, for a seller you're already a regular with. On a modest beauty stream doing £400 of sales an hour, each stream pays £38.13 in hourly rate plus £36 commission, so about £74 a stream and £222 a week. Push sales to £1,000 an hour, which a confident host on good stock does regularly, and the same week pays £384. There's a calculator on our hosts page if you want to play with the numbers.

What moves the number

  • Category. Beauty, fashion and preloved auctions convert fastest on TikTok Shop UK. Home and gadgets need more demo time per sale.
  • Stock and deals. A host can't sell what the brand hasn't priced to move. Flash deals, bundles and a clear "live only" price matter more than charisma.
  • Time slot. Evenings and Sunday afternoons outperform weekday mornings for most consumer categories. Auctions are the exception.
  • Your pace. Reading the chat, calling names, keeping a countdown going. Hosts who hold viewers for longer sell more per hour, and that's the thing we watch for when we review replays.

Employed or freelance?

Agency and brand roles are usually freelance. You invoice, you handle your own tax, and you choose your shifts. Some brands hire in-house presenters on a salary, which gives you stability but ties you to one shop and one schedule. If you're building a part-time income around a job or a course, freelance with a guaranteed flat fee is the better fit.

How to earn at the top of the range

Go live often on your own account, even to a small audience, so you can show replays. Learn one or two categories deeply. Be reliable: brands pay more for a host who has never missed a shift than for a host who's funnier but flaky. And ask for commission. A brand that won't share upside with the person selling for them is telling you something.
