How many hours a week should a TikTok Shop go live?

More than you're doing now, almost certainly. Among UK sellers who take TikTok Shop seriously, the pattern is consistent: sales scale with live hours more reliably than with anything else they try. Ten hours a week is a serious starting point. Forty is where a brand starts to feel always-on. The brands topping category charts are often live most of the day.

Why hours matter so much

TikTok pushes lives into the For You feed while they're happening. Every hour you're live is an hour you can be discovered by people who have never heard of you. When you're not live, that door is shut. Unlike a video, a live doesn't keep working after you stop.

There's a second effect. Regular slots train your audience. If you're live every weekday at 7pm, people come back at 7pm. Sporadic lives never build that habit.

What stops brands adding hours

It's almost never the stock or the demand. It's people. The founder is doing the lives and has run out of evenings. The one employee who's good on camera wants a life. Hiring a presenter means payroll, training and a studio rota for a role that's hard to flex up and down.

A realistic ladder

  • Under 10 hours a week. You're testing. Pick two fixed slots and keep them for a month before judging anything.
  • 10 to 20 hours. One host plus the founder. Evenings and one weekend afternoon. This is where most brands see live become a real channel.
  • 20 to 40 hours. Two or three rotating hosts. You need a run-sheet template, a weekly schedule and someone producing: queuing products, pinning links, watching the numbers.
  • 40 hours and up. A named host team, a producer per stream, and stock planning that keeps live-only deals fresh. At this level the lives are the business.

Adding hours without hiring

This is the gap we built Hosts for Hire to fill. Vetted freelance hosts, matched to your category, streaming on your account from your studio or from their homes, on a monthly retainer for the hours you want. You keep the shop, the pricing and the fulfilment. We supply the people and the schedule, and you get a weekly report of hours, viewers, sales and top products.

How to know it's working

Track sales per live hour, not just total sales. If you double hours and sales-per-hour holds or rises, keep going. If sales-per-hour falls sharply, the new slots or hosts need work before you add more. Give any new slot four weeks before you judge it.
